Designer Caroline Ellen's jewelry is at once modern, luxurious and timelessly classic. For the New York City native, designing jewelry is an art form akin to sculpture: hands-on and intense. "My father was a violinist and my mother had a passion for dance. From them I learned early on that the process of creating is as important as the creation itself." Working out of her NYC studio, Caroline formulates her own alloys to create special colors of gold and handcrafts each piece of jewelry. Whether sketching or working at her bench, she is always imagining who will wear each piece. Caroline's work is always identifiable by its unique, hand-finished patina and classically inspired shapes. Caroline's design philosophy is to find beauty in simplicity--each piece is handmade and hand finished, usually in 20 or 22 karat gold--Caroline is particularly drawn to unusually bright stones, such as fancy sapphires and light-colored emeralds, and to the rich color of high-karat gold, and each hand finished piece has Caroline's unique satin finish. Her pieces are stunningly gorgeous and eye-catching, and in honor of Mother's Day, we decided to interview Caroline--we believe that a piece by her would be truly perfect for a gift for mom!

-What is your favorite piece of jewelry? I wear my flower pendant on a 22K gold chain every day. Chocolate! -What was the first piece you ever designed? The 22K gold chain that I wear every day. When I finished jewelry school, the first thing I wanted to make was a classic and simple chain. I made about ten samples with links in different sizes and thicknesses before I settled on the proportions of this one. In this week's edition of Peridot Love Stories, we spoke to the lovely Nerida and Andrew, an adorable couple from Sydney, Australia. They discovered their Anne Sportun wedding bands at Peridot this past summer, and will be married in March of 2015 in their hometown of Sydney! "This picture was taken just after we left the Peridot store in Larchmont and walked back to the train station - we were so happy with our choices and very excited!" Your name: Nerida His name: Andrew How did the two of you meet?: Through a mutual friend who introduced me to Andrew via email when I moved to NYC. I contacted Andrew and we met up at The Slaughtered Lamb in the West Village for a drink early one summer evening. We are actually from the same city in Australia (Sydney). We had traveled very far to meet each other! Where/how did he propose? Back at The Slaughtered Lamb. [caption id="attachment_314" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Bands by Anne Sportun Fine Jewelry[/caption] What do you love about your ring/band?: Its uniqueness - it was handmade especially for me by Anne Sportun and so, so, pretty with diamonds and gorgeous yellow gold. Andrew's band is equally as unique - handcrafted by Anne Sportun with hammered yellow gold. It reminds us of home - the Australian beach with sea urchins, rock-pools and waves. What’s one thing you love about him?: Andrew's sense of humor Use one word to describe what kind of bride you are: Excited! What made you choose Peridot?: From our first phone call with Dawn we had great advice, service and care in our important decision. This was, by far, the best experience we'd had in our wedding jewellery search in the NYC and greater New York area. A picture of your wedding. Hasn't happened yet! It's scheduled for 14 March 2015 in Sydney, Australia. Nerida and Andrew's rings are by Anne Sportun Fine Jewelry. Nerida's ring is an 18 Karat Yellow Gold Ring with a Single Row of 12 Pave Set Diamonds. *If you are in the midst of or about to begin your search for the perfect ring, please do not hesitate to contact me at email@example.com or give us a call at (914) 833-7333.
