Peridot Blog
Introducing: Ruth Tomlinson at Peridot
Ruth Tomlinson has arrived at Peridot and we are just swooning for her delicate, sea-inspired collection! Romantic, original, and properly made by a bonafied British artisan, we can't get enough of Ruth's work. Check out some of our favorite pieces new in store, and if her siren call lures you into Peridot for a visit, you may just get to take one of these gorgeous works of art home!
Golden coral clusters drip beyond earring posts to catch white diamonds in their grasp like silvery minnows shimmering in a net.
Light green amethysts grow from white barnacle clusters falling from delicate ear wires.
Sapphires set in gathered granulation cast every shade of deep ocean blue upon a ring finger.
Aqua pendants so lucid you could swim inside them.
Sapphire and diamond cluster earrings appear as if you opened an oyster and found them this way.

Gold like Satin and Stones like Stars: Q&A with Jewelry Designer Caroline Ellen.
Designer Caroline Ellen's jewelry is at once modern, luxurious and timelessly classic. For the New York City native, designing jewelry is an art form akin to sculpture: hands-on and intense. "My father was a violinist and my mother had a passion for dance. From them I learned early on that the process of creating is as important as the creation itself." Working out of her NYC studio, Caroline formulates her own alloys to create special colors of gold and handcrafts each piece of jewelry. Whether sketching or working at her bench, she is always imagining who will wear each piece. Caroline's work is always identifiable by its unique, hand-finished patina and classically inspired shapes. Caroline's design philosophy is to find beauty in simplicity--each piece is handmade and hand finished, usually in 20 or 22 karat gold--Caroline is particularly drawn to unusually bright stones, such as fancy sapphires and light-colored emeralds, and to the rich color of high-karat gold, and each hand finished piece has Caroline's unique satin finish. Her pieces are stunningly gorgeous and eye-catching, and in honor of Mother's Day, we decided to interview Caroline--we believe that a piece by her would be truly perfect for a gift for mom!

-What is your favorite piece of jewelry? I wear my flower pendant on a 22K gold chain every day.

-What is your guilty pleasure? Chocolate!
-What was the first piece you ever designed? The 22K gold chain that I wear every day. When I finished jewelry school, the first thing I wanted to make was a classic and simple chain. I made about ten samples with links in different sizes and thicknesses before I settled on the proportions of this one.

Designer Spotlight: Brooke Gregson
Guys--we are SO excited about our newest, beyond fabulous designer: straight from London (drum roll please)...BROOKE GREGSON!
Born and bred in Los Angeles and currently working out of her Notting Hill studio, Brooke Gregson has been making organic and refreshingly modern jewelry since 2004. Her fascination with Astronomy is reflected in her precious, luminescent gemstones surrounded by pave diamond halos. Her recently introduced “Silk Woven” bracelets and necklaces—fine metal chain enveloped in hand woven silk combined with beautiful semi-precious stones and diamonds—can be worn together or on their own, and are as unique as they are striking.
Brooke’s jewelry is fresh and an absolute delight to wear—true statement pieces that you will never want to take off.

Believe it or not, Brooke is carried very exclusively--in fact, the only website allowed to sell her pieces is Net-A-Porter, and we are currently the ONLY STORE in the tri-state area to carry her stuff--so you know what that means--you have to visit us. Not only that, you really want to see all her pieces together to really get the full effect.
Her gorgeous pieces have been pictured on the likes of my new best friends Jennifer Lawrence and Helena Christensen, among others, and have graced the glossy pages of Vogue and Elle Magazine.
Love!

November's Hottest Designer: Alexis Bittar
If you were a regular in the Manhattan club scene in the 80s (and we know you have your secrets), you were probably hanging around the likes of our friend, Alexis Bittar. Yet this party animal made a rather smooth transition out of the world of booze and into the world of BANGLES.
Alexis had created an empire, completing revamping modern jewelry trends and sending chic ripples of inspiration into countless awe-inspired designer’s collections.
The gorgeous Holiday ’11 Collection is coined “Miss Havisham”: it’s sexy and slick with hues of blush and black seamlessly carved into shapes of “liquid” and “fringe”. Yet the new Cruise ’12 Collection, to arrive at Peridot before Valentine’s day (hint hint), draws inspiration from the opulently disgruntled estate, Grey Gardens. Moody charcoals and mints frame and vine and snarl, creating an ensemble on their own, requiring only the simplest canvas of jeans or a little black dress to drape over.
The designs are created in New York, a real feat these days, and everything is made by hand. It takes 6-7 people just to hand-carve and hand-paint one Lucite bangle. If that doesn’t make you feel like you’ve got luxury dripping off your wrists, what will?!
Mizuki and the Modern Pearl...
New York based, Japanese designer, Mizuki has always been our go-to-girl for all things slick, monochromatic, and edgy (like literally with edges). Her Collection is elegant with a kiss of subtly intriguing toughness.
Not just for country clubs and grandmothers anymore, Mizuki has redifined the classic pearl necklace by stringing together 28" impressive inches of organically shaped and colored fresh waters. Pairing the pearls with black diamonds or romantic chiffon has us layering PEARLS (who knew!) with our flashiest blouses!

Indulge in The Comforts of Fall
As the temperature dips and the leaves begin to turn, we indulge in the comforts of Fall -- we're talkin' pipin hot chai lattes and steamy apple cider, making the season's first fire in the fireplace, a new vest with that great leathery smell and, most dear to our hearts, accessorizing.
You don't really feel Fall until you closet the white corals and seek out some new pieces to help you say buh-bye July and hello autumn.
So roll up your sleeves and sport your favorite new pumpkin-colored pieces in lush hues of muscovite, orange jade and sandstone.
